Celebrating Stories: World Book Day at Back to the Garden Childcare

Reading Zog for World Book Day at Back to the Garden Childcare

This week at Back to the Garden, we are celebrating one of our favourite things – books! With World Book Day just around the corner on Thursday, 7th March, both our nurseries will be embracing the magic of stories. Throughout the week, the children will enjoy book-inspired activities, wonderfully creative tuff trays designed by our talented team, and of course, the chance to dress up as their favourite storybook characters.

What is World Book Day?

World Book Day is a global celebration of reading, aimed at encouraging children to discover the joy that stories can bring. Whether it’s stepping into the pages of a much-loved classic like The Gruffalo, or discovering a new favourite together, books have the power to transport us to magical places, spark curiosity, and inspire a lifelong love of reading.

Bringing Books to Life at Nursery and at Home

At Back to the Garden, books are at the heart of what we do. Both our nurseries have their very own lending library, encouraging families to borrow books and enjoy story time together at home.

At our Lymm nursery setting, Becky from Preschool shares her regular book recommendations on Famly in a feature called ‘Becky’s Books’, helping to create lovely home-nursery links. One of her recent favourites was ‘The Invisible String‘ by Patrice Karst, a beautiful story that helps children understand connection and love, even when apart.

We also love welcoming our Mystery Reader each month — a resident from our neighbouring apartments, Minerva Place, who visits to share a story with the children. These visits are a wonderful way to foster our intergenerational connections and show the children that stories can bring people of all ages together.

The Magic of Bedtime Stories

We know that stories are not just for nursery, they’re a wonderful way to wind down at home too, becoming a soothing and special part of the bedtime routine. Sharing a story together creates calm, connection and comfort, gently easing little ones towards sleep.

Our Very Own Back to the Garden Sleep Stories

To support this precious time of day, we’ve created something truly special – our own series of three magical original Sleep Stories, written by Emma James and beautifully narrated by Sadie Pickering.

Sleep Stories for World Book Day with Sadie Pickering and Back to the Garden Childcare

These enchanting stories are designed to calm busy minds, drawing children into soothing, nature-inspired adventures that nurture imagination while helping them relax into a peaceful sleep.

You can listen to Back to the Garden Sleep Stories for free on Spotify and YouTube — the perfect addition to your evening wind-down ritual.

Whether it’s cosying up with a book borrowed from our lending library, exploring a story-inspired tuff tray at nursery, or drifting off to sleep with one of our specially created Sleep Stories, we hope this World Book Day helps to spark even more love for stories – at nursery, at home, and everywhere in between.

Happy Reading!
